Did 'bigfoot' visit Nebraska? Some say 'yes'!!!

Back in the 1950s when I was in grade school, there was a lot of talk about 2 things in particular: one was Bridey Murphy-the case of possible reincarnation and also The Abominable Snowman. While Bridey Murphy has faded into the background, the abominable snowman has morphed into something similar called 'bigfoot.' Native Americans use the term 'sasquatch' for this hairy creature that can be as tall as ten feet and weigh up to 500 pounds! The dark long hair covering its body is a reddish tone and there is a horrid distinctive smell associated with its presence. Tibetans call this creature Yeti and it was originally seen in the forests of the American Northwest. In the Himalayas, mountain climbers rarely report seeing the Yeti, but they have reported hearing his yell and/or seeing his huge footprints. Travel guides refuse to go into areas where Yetis are believed to live.

Bigfoot sightings in places besides the Pacific Northwest were considered few and far between, however now there seem to be reports of bigfoot appearing in all sorts of places. This is what makes his possible sightings in Nebraska seem more credible. In 1974 two motorists traveling in opposite directions saw a huge bi-pedal creature coming out of a ditch. They estimated its height at 8 feet and its weight at 700 lbs. Both observers compared notes on what they had seen and agreed on the basic descriptions. Then a year later in 1975, a similar creature was seen in Sarpy county near Bellevue when a teenager was walking through a field on his way to visit his girlfriend. The last known observations reported in Nebraska were: near Mead in Saunders county; Near Salt Creek near Lincoln where a horrid smell was reported; and from a family of campers at Chadron State Park near Omaha. They understandably cur their camping trip short.

There are many more reports in Nebraska of large bipedals with hairy exteriors and horrid smells, but they lack verification from other observers besides those revealing the encounters. In cryptozoology where unusual species are discovered and studied, scientists describe bigfoot as 'folklore.' Perhaps he is just that. But folklore doesn't leave a horrid smell with large tracks having 6 toes!
